As part of the celebrations for our upcoming 20th anniversary, we were proud to present a special event putting the spotlight on the most gifted glass maker in the West Country, Richard Glass!
From Saturday 7th June to Saturday 14th June, the visitors to FIZZ Gallery were treated to an exclusive new collection by Richard, who is widely known for his elegant design, striking craftsmanship and an unmistakable flair for fluid, sculptural glass.
A COLLECTION THAT CAPTURES THE COASTLINE
This anniversary collection, which has been created especially for this showcase, drew strong inspiration from the movement and power of the sea. At the centre of the display were Richard’s breathtaking new Wave Monoliths, a luminous piece of art that seemed to hum with energy, evoking both the rhythm and serenity of coastal life.
These powerful works were beautifully complemented by a selection of handblown vases, bowls and sculptural forms, each echoing his signature style: rich colours, smooth curves and a timeless quality that balances the contemporary with the classic.
THE ARTIST BEHIND THE GLASS
Born down in Plymouth in 1978, Richard studied at the Southampton Institute learning Fine Art, where his early experiments looked at light and transparency through unconventional casting materials such as salt, fat and sugar. This fascination soon evolved into a lasting interest in glass; an especially fitting medium given his surname.
After formal training with Dartington Crystal and academic grounding in ceramics and applied art, he founded his own studio, Fluid Glass, before moving to Teign Valley Glass in Bovey Tracey, where he continues to create and inspire.
A TRUE FIZZ FAVOURITE
Over the last two decades, Richard has become one of our most popular represented artists but also a dear friend of the gallery. His work resonates with so many of our visitors, collectors and first-time buyers alike and it was a true honour to shine a spotlight on his creative journey as part of our anniversary series.
