With this latest artwork we are introduced to a young boy offering a simple bouquet of flowers, referencing another of Banksy’s most enduring images, ‘Flower Thrower’, first seen on the West Bank and now recognised around the world as a symbol of peace overcoming conflict. The original figure can even be seen stencilled in the background behind the child, reinforcing the link between the two works.
Here, however, Mr Brainwash softens the protester’s gesture into one of youthful optimism, as the bouquet draws towards it a spectacular cloud of 24 brilliantly coloured butterflies.
Long associated with transformation, renewal and rebirth, the butterflies become a visual metaphor for dreams taking flight, possibilities unfolding and the idea that positive change begins with simple acts of hope.
This artwork is framed in Mr Brainwash’s vandalised frame.
